Henry Graham Murray is a BAFTA nominated director for the British television comedy series “Rory Bremner – Who Else?” [IMDB]
As well as being a veteran television producer and director of documentary, reality shows, factual entertainment and comedy for British television, Henry is an award winning stage director. Henry most recent stage work was directing a play for the Hollywood Fringe Festival - Radicals, a gripping Bollywood musical action drama set in Kashmir. Here is a video of a performance of Radicals.
His work in theatre includes directing two Tom Stoppard plays for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival earning this review by the revered Harold Hobson in The London Times: “It is beautifully directed by Henry Murray, who concludes it with a picture of a clear sky which splendidly startles as one is never startled except in the theatre.”
Henry ran a Playreading group in LA that met regularly for six years to rehearse and perform short scenes from plays and screenplays, by new or established writers. His roles included producing, directing and acting. The Play reading group went online at the beginning of the pandemic as LA Play Reading on Facebook with recordings on You Tube. The group isnow organized primarily by my good friend and colleague from the play reading group, Stephen Olson. Stephen started writing plays for the group seven years ago and has now written well over 150 brilliant short plays all of which have been performed in person or on Zoom in a wide variety of production venues. Henry directed a short film of one of Stephen’s plays in 2018 - What Could Have Been.
Henry was also a prolific actor in his younger years, which included his membership for four years in stage productions and tours with theNational Youth Theatre in Britain. He appears in this documentary about the NYT’s production of Coriolanus. He also acted in stage productions in the UK and on tours of Europe and the USA with the Oxford University Dramatic Society and the Oxford and Cambridge Shakespeare Company. This year has offered many acting opportunities with Zoom theatre productions including live streamed portrayals of Claudius in Hamlet and John of Gaunt in Richard II. Henry presents workshops on connecting with crystals and letting them help create realities and allow healing.
Henry takes a lot of Photographs in his Venice, LA, neighborhood. He also enjoys Designing Websites. He is an enthusiastic opera and theatre goer, an avid attendee of art gallery openings, and an ever willing conversationalist.
